Real Stories, Real Results

Learn About Sports Massage

  • Sports massage therapy is a form of massage that focuses on enhancing an athlete's performance, aiding in the preparation for, and recovery from, the demands of training or competition. It encompasses three main types:

    Clinical Injury Rehab Sports Massage

    Maintenance and Training Massage

    Event Sports Massage

Each option is designed to support athletes in different stages of their sporting activities. Whether in a clinic, at an event, or during a game, sports massage is a vital tool for any athlete looking to improve their physical condition and achieve their goals.

  • Our Clinical Injury Rehab Sports Massage is designed to address both acute and chronic injuries, aiding in the reduction of scar tissue formation and helping prevent long-term conditions. We utilize the following techniques:

    Deep tissue massage

    PNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation)

    Trigger point therapy

    Swedish massage techniques

    Fascial techniques

Our therapists can work closely with your Sports Medicine Team to manage and assist in your recovery process. This collaborative approach ensures a comprehensive treatment plan that addresses biomechanical imbalances and issues, facilitating a quicker and more effective recovery.

  • To support the ongoing demands of training, our Maintenance and Training Massage is typically recommended once a month. This service is crucial for maintaining the wear and tear of regular training, providing consistency in your training regimen, and reducing the risk of injuries. It's also an opportune time for our therapists to assess any early signs of potential injuries, offering proactive measures to keep you in optimal condition.

  • Our Event Sports Massage service is tailored to be less intrusive than our Clinical Rehabilitation offering, with three categories available: Pre-event, Post-event, and Inter-event.

Pre-event and Post-event sports massages can occur at an event or within a few days leading up to or after a competition or race at our Clinic.

The benefits of event sports massage include:

    Stimulate or Relax Muscles

    Loosen Adhesions and Increase Mobility

    Decrease Muscular Tension

Increase Circulation / Aides in Recovery with Flushing Techniques

Help with the Athlete's Psychological State

Our techniques are grounded in the recommendations and research from the Canadian Sport Massage Therapists Association (CSMTA), ensuring you receive the most effective and scientifically backed treatments available.

Sports Massage Therapy Burlington FAQs

  • The frequency of sports massage therapy depends on various factors, including your training intensity, competition schedule, and individual needs. It's essential to start with a consultation at Burlington Sports and Spine Clinic, where we can assess your specific situation and recommend a personalized massage schedule that aligns with your training goals and physical condition.

  • During your first session, your therapist will conduct a thorough assessment to understand your health history, current physical condition, and specific goals. Based on this assessment, the therapist will tailor the session to your needs, which might involve a combination of different techniques to target your areas of concern.
